ITS Vienna Region

Competence Centre for ITS of Vienna, Lower Austria and Burgenland

Who we are

ITS Vienna Region is the Competence Centre for Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) of the three Austrian federal states of Vienna, Lower Austria and Burgenland. These states are also substantially involved in financing and project control.

Established in 2006, ITS Vienna Region has more than 15 experts involved in Verkehrsverbund Ost-Region (VOR) and is comprised of the specialised departments research & development, organisation, GIP, traffic models and technology.

ITS or transport telematics include the collection, transmission, processing and application of (digital) data in transport. Examples are routing services, real-time displays at public transport stops, real-time traffic conditions, the automatic collection and processing of traffic incidents as well as digital toll systems.

ITS Vienna Region - Who we are

Our mission

Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS or transport telematics) can contribute significantly to making transport more efficient, safer, more flexible and greener.

The aim is to ensure that all road users get from A to B easily, safely and quickly with the help of current traffic data, efficient traffic management and high-quality traffic information. The comparison of various routes, means of transport and combinations, aims to explore new options that may have been overlooked so far. The foundation for this is provided by the transport policy objectives of the three Austrian federal states of Vienna, Lower Austria and Burgenland.

With a view to incorporating the entire transport system and as much data as possible, ITS Vienna Region is well-connected in a strong national and international network. Its partners include ASFINAG, ÖBB, Wiener Linien, the police force, the traffic information centre of the Austrian broadcaster Hitradio Ö3, the taxi businesses Taxi31300, Taxi40100 and Taxi60160, Citybike Wien and many agencies of public administration.

What we do

ITS Vienna Region collects traffic data and processes it, so that it can be used for traffic management, e-government and transport services. The routing service AnachB, available across Austria, is operated jointly by ITS Vienna Region and Verkehrsverbund Ost-Region for the benefit of all road users.

In addition, ITS Vienna Region shoulders tasks related to project management, tenders, development and operation and is represented in many research projects and committees. ITS Vienna Region is a founding partner of the Austria-wide projects Traffic Information Austria (VAO), the Graph Integration Platform (GIP) and basemap.
