About Us

Vienna Region is the center of excellence for Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) for the three Austrian states of Vienna, Lower Austria, and Burgenland. With about 25 experts, ITS Vienna Region is a division of Verkehrsverbund Ost-Region (VOR).

Founded in 2006, ITS Vienna Region is now organized into the departments ITS Data Engineering & Data Science, Project Management & Development, ITS Systems Engineering, GIP Operations, and Traffic Modeling. Our activities are focused on benefiting the Eastern Region. Where it makes sense and is effective, we scale our solutions beyond the regional level.
ITS (Intelligent Transport Systems, also known as traffic telematics) encompasses the collection, transmission, processing, and application of (digital) data in the transportation sector. Examples include routing services, sensors for traffic monitoring, traffic management systems, and networked cooperative systems.

Our Mission

ITS can play a significant role in making transportation more efficient, safer, more flexible, and more environmentally friendly. As an active contributor to the ITS community, we recognize existing successful approaches and continue to build upon them.

Our understanding of mobility encompasses the entire mobility system in all its complexity—from public transportation to motorized and non-motorized private transportation, freight transport, and logistics, as well as the associated infrastructure. By identifying trends and framework conditions in mobility at an early stage, incorporating them into our solutions, and taking into account (inter)national guidelines and standards, we shape mobility today and for the future.

Our daily work

With real-time traffic data, efficient traffic management, and high-quality traffic information, all road users should be able to travel from A to B comfortably, sustainably, safely, and quickly. Automation, traffic models, and the integration of various systems play a key role in this. To this end, ITS Vienna Region collects and analyzes traffic data and makes it available for use in traffic management, e-government, and traffic services.
In addition, ITS Vienna Region is represented in numerous research projects and committees, where we are involved in tenders, project management, as well as development and operations. ITS Vienna Region is also a founding partner of the Austria-wide projects Verkehrsauskunft Österreich (VAO), Graphenintegrations-Plattform GIP, and basemap.
